Kathmandu : The 14th Southwestern Science Exhibition and Career in Management-2026 organized by Southwestern State College (SWSC) has concluded for two days at the college premises in Basundhara. The exhibition and career expo was inaugurated by Tokha Municipality Mayor Prakash Adhikari.
The expo, which brings together science, technology, innovation and management education, served as a platform to unleash the creativity of students, promote research and provide guidance in career building, the organizers said. It has provided an opportunity for school and college level students to showcase their skills, knowledge and talents.
At the inauguration ceremony, Mayor Prakash Adhikari praised the college for its continuous contribution to the academic and professional skills development of students. “Investment in education is an important foundation for building the future of society,” he said. Speaking at the event, Gopal Acharya, Central President of PABSON Kathmandu, said that the college has been playing a significant role in developing quality education, innovation and creativity.
“Such programs are necessary to provide practical knowledge, skills and career guidance along with the curriculum,” he added. College Principal Dr. Rajendra KC pointed out that in modern education, knowledge limited to books is not enough but students should focus on experimentation, research and problem-solving.
He said, “Exhibitions and exhibitions are effective mediums for practical learning and play an important role in developing innovation and independent thinking.” According to Hari Singh KC, Vice Principal of the college, the exhibition was conducted from 10 am to 4 pm. More than 75 schools from Kathmandu participated. The participating students and teachers commented that it was “like an experience abroad” while observing the college’s state-of-the-art science laboratory.
The program was conducted by SWSC Company Secretary Mr. Rajendra Lamichhane, who played a key role in conducting the program in an organized manner. Om Samaj Dental Hospital social activist and board member Rajan Thapa was given the responsibility of coordinating the health services.
A health camp was organized in collaboration with Green City Hospital, Kirtipur Eye Hospital conducted eye tests, and Om Samaj Dental Hospital provided dental tests and treatment services. In addition, a blood donation program was also conducted in collaboration with HEADS Nepal and Nepal Red Cross Society. On this occasion, an agreement was signed between Southwestern State College and Om Samaj Dental Hospital for long-term collaboration.
On behalf of the college, Dr. Rajendra KC, Hari Singh KC, and Sarita Shakya Pradhan signed the agreement, while board member and campaigner Rajan Thapa and Bansathali branch chief Sabina Papan Gurung signed the agreement. Delivering the welcome address at the program, Sarita Shakya Pradhan, coordinator of the 14th exhibition, said that the expo provided students with an opportunity to learn, showcase their talents, and become competitive.
She mentioned that the program was organized with the aim of encouraging innovation and research by adapting to modern technology. More than 60 schools and colleges had stalls at the expo. Projects related to science, management, technology, innovation and research were showcased. This time, competitive events were conducted at three levels including inter-college, inter-college and inter-school science exhibitions.
Technology-friendly activities like maze solving robot competition and solar observation were also conducted. The event also included a non-stop music program for participants and spectators and a voting system through observers. The students said, “All the three cities have excellent laboratories. No matter how many colleges we visited, we did not find such a laboratory. We were really happy to see the 14th Science Exhibition today.”
Analysts have rated the 14th Science Exhibition and Career Expo of SWSC as a remarkable initiative that has inspired students to be creative, practical and active in research, as well as providing healthcare services through social responsibility programs.
