Kathmandu . In a significant step toward combating drug abuse at the grassroots level, Tarkeshwar Municipality in coordination with the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, Ranipokhari, launched the “Drug-Free Homes Campaign 2082” under the Community-Police Partnership initiative.
The program, held at Tarkeshwar Municipality’s meeting hall, ran from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and was chaired by Mayor Mr. Krishna Hari Maharjan. The chief guest was Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG) Mr. Tek Bahadur Tamang, head of the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, Ranipokhari.
Dignitaries present at the event included Deputy Mayor Mrs. Srijana Burlakoti Aryal, expert Professor Dr. Kedar Narsingh KC, Professor Dr. Keshav Raj Khadka, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mr. Sudarshan Prasad Koirala of the Narcotics Control Bureau, SSP Mr. Bishwo Adhikari from the Kathmandu District Police Office, and SSP Mr. Nabaraj Adhikari from the Valley Police Office, Ranipokhari.
Also present were the municipality’s Chief Administrative Officer Mr. Ishwar Prasad Acharya, Inspector Shalikram Sharma, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Gyan Bahadur Bishta and DSP Ravi Raj Thapaliya, along with chairpersons of all 11 wards of Tarkeshwar Municipality.
The event witnessed participation from a wide spectrum of stakeholders, including heads of community and institutional schools, School Management Committee chairs, representatives from the Parents’ Associations, female health volunteers, health institution chiefs, women’s groups, local clubs, orphanage operators, medical store owners, and child club representatives.
The program commenced with the national anthem followed by a welcome speech by CAO Mr. Acharya. Chief Guest AIG Tamang officially inaugurated the event by lighting a ceremonial lamp.
A short awareness video on drug abuse was screened, followed by a detailed presentation on the topic by SSP Nabaraj Adhikari. Goodwill messages were delivered by Dr. Kedar Narsingh KC, Dr. Keshav Khadka, and SSP Bishwo Adhikari.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was exchanged between AIG Tek Bahadur Tamang and Mayor Krishna Hari Maharjan, marking the commitment to the campaign. The ceremony also included the unveiling of an official campaign sticker that will be mandatorily posted on all households and public vehicles across the municipality.
Tokens of appreciation were presented to six distinguished guests, including AIG Tamang, Dr. KC, Dr. Khadka, SSP Adhikari, SSP Koirala, and SSP Nabaraj Adhikari.
The event concluded with closing remarks by Mayor Maharjan, followed by a group photo session and refreshments.
The campaign signifies a joint determination to promote a healthier and safer community by eradicating drug abuse through awareness, collaboration, and active citizen engagement.
