Kathmandu : Waste workers mobilized by CREASION Nepal began early morning clean-up operations in the Pashupatinath Temple area following the massive influx of devotees during the Maha Shivaratri festival. Under its “SafaGarau,” Campaign CREASION Nepal deployed more than 500 waste workers and volunteers to carry out an extensive clean-up drive in and around the temple premises.
On the day of Shivaratri alone, over 500 workers were engaged from morning until evening at locations within the Pashupatinath area where waste accumulation was highest. The clean-up initiative was organized in coordination with the Pashupati Area Development Trust under the “SafaGarau” operated by CREASION Nepal as part of the Climate Smart Cities Project, with support from The Coca-Cola Foundation.
According to CREASION Nepal Program Director Sujata Koirala, the campaign was launched to manage the significant waste generated as hundreds of thousands of devotees gathered at the temple to observe Maha Shivaratri. General Secretary Roshana Subedi stated that the initiative was conducted as a coordinated effort with private-sector sanitation workers to promote a clean and green Shivaratri celebration.
Program Director, Koirala, further informed that approximately 500 waste workers and volunteers will continue clean-up activities in the Pashupatinath area for three consecutive days. On the occasion, The Coca-Cola Foundation also distributed 20,000 bottles of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar products free of charge to visiting devotees and pilgrims. CREASION Nepal stated that the Safa Garau Campaign aims to promote responsible waste management and raise public awareness, focusing on the Pashupatinath area, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The organization expressed confidence that the initiative will contribute to developing a sustainable culture of cleanliness and environmental responsibility. Through its Climate Smart Cities Project, CREASION Nepal expects to further support sustainable urban management, waste reduction, and the promotion of a cleaner environment.
